"ARNOLD" THE MINUTEMAN JOINS MINUTEMAN FATHER GILCHRIST

In case you missed it, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger joined Minutemen founder Jim Gilchrist at the Sacramento Press Club this afternoon to show his support for the anti-immigrant border vigilante Minutemen Project.

Schwarzenegger attended dressed in a colonial Minuteman costume to underline his support for the anti-immigrant group and carried a sign saying, “Thank you Arnold for supporting us anti-immigrant border vigilantes.”

At least, we think it was Arnold. It sounded like him, anyway.

In a CYD exclusive interview at the event, “Arnold” said:
“I’m here to support my good friend Jim Gilchrist and to show my support of the Minutemen Project. If you look at my administration, we have consistenly been anti-immigrant, and anti-Latino, as Sen. Abel Maldonado has recently pointed out.”

“Arnold” went on to note that he has supported the Minutemen for a long time, apparently referring to his 2005 comments in support of the border vigilante group:

“Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, just a week after apologizing for suggesting California should "close the borders,'' warmly praised the Minutemen project -- an armed citizens group -- on Thursday for doing a terrific job of stopping illegal immigration from Mexico.

“Although President Bush has criticized the group as vigilantes, Schwarzenegger said, ‘They've done a terrific job.’” (San Francisco Chronicle, April 29, 2005)

Video footage of “Arnold’s” appearance can be seen on YouTube.
